Covid-19 hit the performance industry like a wrecking ball. For artists, dancers, and theater companies, there’s no remote option — the stage is their livelihood. As I watched clients struggle to stay afloat, I began donating shoots to support their stories. This work matters. The arts matter.

An objective of photography, at least for me, it to convey an emotion in the image. The gentle resignation of the dancer’s head is what puts it all together.

As a photographer, I’m always chasing meaning — not just in light and form, but in the choices artists make. A recent visit to the Art Institute of Chicago reminded me how much we can learn by asking, why that shadow, why that gesture, why that light?
